The SAT
Why should you care about the SAT?
It's treated the exact same way as the ACT by almost all colleges. If you're looking at specific places, Google it to check!
I scored much higher on the SAT (two scholarship levels at Auburn higher) than I did on the ACT. It's a personality thing. Go figure.
Take both the ACT and the SAT. It could make a huge financial difference!

About the SAT
The SAT, administered by College Board, consists of ten very short sections covering three subject areas:
Math: two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section
Critical Reading: two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section
Writing: one 25-minute section, one 10-minute section, and a 25-minute essay at the beginning of the test
Experimental: one 25-minute section from one of the above categories, which is for experimental purposes only and will not be scored. You will not, however, be told which section is experimental, so do your best each time. :)
